Why Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUWTK) is better than their new show, The Kardashians

If you’re anything like me, Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUWTK) was the go-to show for me and anyone who loves trashy drama. Premiering on E! in 2007, and running for 20 seasons, it went on to become one of the most iconic reality TV shows of all time.

Let's be real - the old episodes were straight up unhinged in the most entertaining way possible. Who could forget when Khloé straight up slapped Scott across his face and got sent to anger management class by her mother, Kris Jenner. Or the iconic Bentley fight where the sisters got into a full blown fight over a car? The show delivered non-stop drama, cringe-worthy scenes and also some real character development. Sure, some of the things they fought about were completely tone deaf - I’ll admit that but honestly that’s what made the show so addictive.

Also, what else made KUWTK so appealing was its authenticity and unfiltered content. The Kardashians used to show their real personalities - flaws, fights and feelings. They didn’t run away from the scandals or dodge the rumours, no matter how messy things got, they confronted the chaos directly and used the show to spill their side of the story. From navigating breakups and messy divorces to dealing with grief and personal struggles, they remained an open book. That kind of vulnerability? That’s what made the show hit different.

On the other hand, The Kardashians, which premiered on Hulu in 2022, is a tough watch. It's a watered down and overly polished version of KUWTK. Yes the visuals ate and the editing is great, but every episode lowkey feels like an advertisement to promote their businesses. The focus has shifted from family dynamics to constant brand mentions, be it another Skims collaboration or the latest Lemme collection. The raw and chaotic energy they used to give off? Completely gone.

Each time a new season is about to drop, the Kardashians hype up the show in their teasers with promises of major drama and “so much to talk about”. But when the episodes roll out, they constantly dodge any real controversy or issues they have been going through. For example, many fans were hoping that Kylie would spill the tea on her rumoured (then) new boyfriend Timothée Chalamet, but instead she chose to avoid talking about it altogether. Every episode is an hour long snooze fest, with Kim constantly reminding us how hard she works and Khloé endlessly talking about how “present” she is as a mother.

Don’t get me started on Kendall and Kylie, they are practically side characters in their own show. Kylie is nowhere to be found, and Kendall pops in once every blue moon to talk about her horses or her anxiety. Fans tune in to the show expecting to see them but it feels like the show is running without its two biggest stars. Without them, the vibe is totally off and the show feels incomplete.

All in all, KUWTK was chaotic in the best way - messy, real and unfiltered. The Kardashians just feel dry and lowkey like a giant ad. It has no drama, no energy and no vibe. And honestly, this is exactly why KUWTK is superior.

Anyone wanna fight me on this?
