Season 3 tells the story of friends-to-lovers Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton whose long-awaited coupling has been teased since the show started its first season in 2020. Starting off from Penelope’s unrequited crush on Colin, #PoLin’s romance has matured into a beautiful marriage. The four episodes explore Penelope as she struggles to keep up her anonymous gossip paper under the moniker of Lady Whistledown, while keeping the secret from her fiance.

The third season offers a deeper look into Penelope’s character rather than focusing on her romance with Colin, and fans are split on whether this is a good idea or not. Bridgerton was first established as a series filled with fiery romance and fans have always looked forward to the characters’ passionate declarations of love to each other.

On the other hand, the latest season focuses more on Penelope’s self-exploration and tells the story of a wallflower trying to find her place in a cutthroat society. Many fans are disappointed at the change of direction the series seems to have taken, with many viewers preferring for the season to revolve around the push and pull of romance.
