Will “Not Alone” Be the Next Iconic NDP Theme Song?
This year’s National Day Parade (NDP) theme is “Together, As One United People,” and local singer Benjamin Kheng is singing the theme song.
“I was immediately drawn to the Singapore River, the river that brings us life, the river that winds through our city,” Kheng mentioned in response to the concept of the theme song.

The music video of the release begins with Benjamin Kheng as the protagonist, sitting alone against a background of people incorporated with 3-dimensional elements. As the music picks up, the video moves on to showcase families and friends gathering joyously. In just two weeks since its release, Not Alone has garnered 200 thousand views and over 500 comments.
Is this the best NDP theme song yet?
Over the decades, there have been some very iconic NDP songs, such as “Home” by Kit Chan. Will Not Alone join these tunes as the next timelessly iconic theme song?
Numerous content creators have started reacting to the Not Alone music video, including TikTok content creator Sarah Lim (@sarxh.lim). In her video, she expressed her anticipation for the song, “since it’s Ben (Benjamin Kheng) singing it, it’s definitely going to be good, like no doubt.”

However, the comment section was flooded with opposing remarks such as “‘The Road Ahead will always be number one,” “Nothing can ever beat ‘Tomorrow’s Here Today’ and ‘The Road Ahead’ regardless of the singer.”
One common title that sticks out in the comment section is the NDP 2021 theme song, “The Road Ahead”. When the title was released three years ago, it left the whole nation in awe with just how good the song was.
Although a handful of people expressed their preferences in past NDP theme songs, the majority of comments on Not Alone were about how much they love the song. One netizen commented, “seriously, this song is so heartfelt with pictures shown of the past.”

It seems that Singaporeans enjoy the nostalgic approach. While Not Alone received positive attention from Singaporeans, whether it will become the next most iconic NDP theme song remains a question.
