Directed by Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu, the film adaptation’s star-studded cast is led by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, and Ariana Grande as Galinda.

Supporting them are other stars like Jeff Goldblum, Peter Dinklage, and even Michelle Yeoh!

To dive deeper into the world of Wicked, the film adaptation will be split into two acts like the original musical, with the sequel set for November 2025!

4. Troubled Development

The Wicked movies have a lengthy history, with discussions for a film adaptation dating as far back as 2004, before its official announcement in 2012 for a then-planned release in 2019.

After several delays due to production conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic, the first Wicked movie will finally open in Singapore on Thursday, 21 Nov 2024!

 5. Poster Controversy

Unfortunately, the film is not without controversy…

Last month, Cynthia Erivo received extensive backlash for her reaction (pictured above) when a fan edited a Wicked film poster to better resemble the musical’s key art.

Following the outrage, the 37-year-old later reflected: "I probably should have called my friends, but it's fine."

Thankfully, we’re not in October anymore; early reactions to the film have been exceedingly wonderful, and audiences are in for a Wicked November!
