Singapore’s Rugby Sevens - an epic showdown

The HSBC Rugby Sevens 2024 took Singapore by storm from 3 May to 5 May. It brought a wave of excitement, passion, and of course intense action on the field!

Renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and festive spirit, spectators were treated to a feast of entertainment both on and off the field. With live music, band performances, and delicious food stalls.

The National Stadium was filled with energy as fans from Singapore and around the world travelled to catch one of the most anticipated events of this year.

From die hard rugby enthusiasts and players to casual supporters, everyone was there to experience the thrill of Rugby Sevens. It was the first time that the Women’s Rugby Sevens would be attending the tournament in Singapore, ever since it first started in 2002.

The tournament kicked off with excitement as 12 men’s and women’s teams from around the world such as Australia, Ireland, and Canada to Argentina, battled it out on the field to decide who would be the Rugby Sevens champions and the overall Rugby Sevens league champion.

From lightning-fast sprints to bone-aching tackles, the skills displayed on the field were nothing short of awe-inspiring. Every team brought their A-game and was determined to claim the victory. Ultimately after a tough battle, both New Zealand Men's and Women’s teams claimed champions for the Singapore Rugby Sevens. The overall Rugby Sevens League champions for the tourney are the Argentina men’s and the New Zealand women’s.

One standout moment came when the USA needed one more score to win over Great Britain (GBR). GBR’s Kerr had a stunning try-saving tackle that prevented USA’s Baker from scoring.

As the final whistle blew and the confetti rained, one thing was clear: the Singapore Rugby Sevens 2024 was a weekend to remember!
